The Peer Assistance and Support System (PASS) has begun its 7th year of service. Joining Coordinator/Peer Coach Rich Saldana are Janet Neighbors, Lynda Manzo, Barbara Simon, Diane Tengen, Lynn Hill and Doris Moore in supporting and assisting their participating teachers.
The program is governed by the PASS Council. Along with Rich Saldana (who is chair), the teacher members are Janet Gomez (Gahr High School) and Margene Millette (Hawaiian Elementary School). Administrator members are Dr. Susan Hixson (Principal, Haskell Middle School) and Kathy Frazier (Director of Schools).
The primary purpose of PASS is to assure that new teachers to ABC, as well as veteran teachers needing assistance receive the support they need to provide a world class education to their students. The peer coaches use the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, as well as the grade level and content area standards to provide feedback to the teachers in the program. They do this by visiting classrooms and conducting pre and post observation meetings with the principal. Thus, the peer coach, participating teacher and principal make up the Professional Support Team (PST), which seeks to implement the teaching and learning goals and objectives established at the beginning of school in the Professional Support Plan (PSP).
Thus, PASS is a crucial component of ABC's commitment to its teachers and students. PASS ensures that teachers have the support they need to be successful and that every student has a highly qualified teacher. Persons seeking more information about this outstanding professional development program should contact Rich Saldana in the PASS Office x22448.
