How to Apply?

Applications are available in March. One application per student is required. You may pick up an application at any ABC school or at the District office,16700 Norwalk Blvd., Cerritos.

Applications must be completed and submitted no later than March 31st. Students currently attending an ABC school must submit their application to the school they are attending. Residents of ABC
currently attending a school that is not part of ABC Unified must submit their application to their ABC school of residence (the ABC school the student would be attending in the District). Applicants living outside ABC Unified must submit their application to the District Office at 16700 Norwalk Boulevard, Cerritos.
If there are more applications than spaces available, a random selection process will be used to establish a priority number for each application. Following the lottery process, a waiting list will be established for those applicants not selected. Parents will be informed in early May if their child has been accepted or placed on the waiting list.

Application Procedures
Enrollment Procedures:
  • Schools of Choice/Magnet School applications are available at the ABC District Office, Academic Services - Magnet Office and all school offices during the month of March.

  • Applications must be submitted by the close of business, the last day of business, in March. 

  • Students residing in the ABC School District must submit application at current ABC school of attendance (ABC student) or school of residence (not currently ABC student).

  • Students residing outside the ABC School District must submit application at ABC Unified School District Office, Magnet Office,16700 Norwalk Blvd., Cerritos, CA 90703 (562) 926-5566 ext. 21075.

  • A random selection process will be used to establish a priority number for each application. Ethnicity will not be considered when establishing a priority number.

  • An application is necessary for each child who applies.

  • Two schools may be listed. If the student is not selected for either school, the student will be put on both waiting lists. These lists expire June 30 with the following exception: The next five student names as of June 30th on the waiting list per grade level per school will remain active until March 31, the following year. Only these five student names per grade level per school will remain active; all other names will not be eligible under Schools of Choice/Magnet Schools. If the student does not accept the School of Choice/Magnet School when offered or the student is not offered a space between June 30th-March 31st, the student must reapply during the month of March for consideration the following year.



  • Current pupils who were granted intradistrict or interdistrict permits will be allowed to complete their education at that school at the K-6, 7-8 or 9-12 grade level unless there is capacity enrollment by attendance area students. Upon completion of grades 6 or 8, if a pupil wishes to attend a School of Choice/Magnet School other than the pupil's assigned school, the pupil must obtain approval under the provision of the Open Enrollment-Schools of Choice/Magnet Schools policy. Interdistrict students must complete the permit process.

  • Parents will be informed in early May if their application has been approved. Waiting list information will follow. Applicants who receive approval must confirm their enrollment with the School of Choice/Magnet School within two weeks of date on letter of application approval. Applicants who do not confirm their enrollment within the two weeks period will lose their eligibility status.
