Artesia High School
Bridge to the Future: Where All Students Succeed
|
Artesia High School is a college and career preparatory magnet school that has been selected as a schoolwide literacy demonstration site for Los Angeles County. New and expanded course offerings include multiple options that embrace the interests of every student. Dedicated teachers and parent volunteers focus students on areas of interest; links with local colleges such as Cerritos College and CSU Long Beach provide the opportunity to expand student knowledge even further. Outside extracurricular programs, such as field trips, guest speakers, and Advanced Summer School Classes, encourage students to make their dreams a reality.

The Visual and Performing Arts Academy
Students choose a focus of specialized concentration in the performing arts (instrumental music, drama, chorus, computer generated music, recording engineering) or in the visual arts (art, photography, graphic design, computer graphics, TV production).
"No Fail" Math Department Students are not allowed to "fail" any longer but are given an "incomplete" grade and asked to sign a contract with their parents that includes regular tutoring sessions (before/during/after school) and to meet defined benchmarks. The key to the program is flexibility and it addresses the different learning styles of the student. What would have been an "F" is converted to a "C" after completion of the required number of benchmarks.
Writing for Publication Campaign Every student will "publish" a writing piece.

Powerful Partnerships
The school was able to create several partnerships with local businesses. Cerritos College, Costco, Dairy Queen, Wallmart, Sam's Club and many others help support Artesia High Schools academic efforts.
Researched-based Teaching Strategies Across the School:
- Creating a "can do" attitude in students: teachers focus on positive, helpful comments and instant feedback for students.
- Creative and interactive classrooms: use of visual aids and multiple strategies to help students succeed.
