World Navigators:
A Global Studies and Technology Magnet

California Distinguished School

Discover, Investigate and Unite

Elliott School World Navigators explore their world with an integrated Standards-based curriculum and state-of-the-art technology. Elliott's magnet program connects students to the global community through integrated Standards-based instruction in History/Social Science and Language Arts along with the required curriculum in Math and Science. Virtual field trips, video conferences, and online projects allow students to see and experience the world without leaving their classroom. As students engage in a curriculum enriched with cultural experiences, they are empowered to communicate effectively the social, political and economic dynamics of our global society.
Advanced Technology puts the world of learning in our hands

Students utilize a stationary computer lab and mobile labs with wireless laptop computers that travel to each classroom. Every classroom has student computers. All computers have Internet access. The students create digital photo essays, digital videos, and computer generated slide show presentations to share their ideas with other students here and around the world. They also learn web page design and post their learning projects to the World Wide Web.

Unique features of the Elliott program:
  • Global multicultural curriculum with integrated instruction.
  • Computers in all classrooms.
  • Computer lab with 32 iMacs.
  • Mobile wireless computer lab for in-class technology integration.

Elliott Elementary School World Navigator Program
A Global Studies and Technology Magnet

The "Elliott School World Navigator" magnet program provides our students with unique opportunities for learning. World Navigators discover the contributions and influences of all ethnic groups through the Global Address Program. The children learn to value and appreciate diversity. With the "All About Me" unit, students are encouraged to explore and celebrate their own cultural backgrounds. Our students gain world perspective and technological skills that give them a definite advantage in today's global society!

Elliott School World Navigators utilize technology to bring their lessons to life with exciting projects that make learning fun and rewarding. Students participate in multicultural music, passport PE, and global experiences with multicultural assemblies. The magnet program reaches out to the community. Elliott students visit the Cerritos Library, Cerritos Performing Arts Center and many local businesses. Each year we receive visitors from other countries. In January, we enjoyed a cultural exchange with 15 Japanese educators from our "sister city" Kakamigahara, Japan. Our students enjoyed Japanese folk dance, origami, and traditional games with the Japanese teachers. Our students also learn to give to those who are less fortunate by participating in Red Cross Dollar Drive ($844.11 donated to Katrina Relief) and the Cerritos Mall "Big Red Bucket" food drive. We continue to provide a high-quality education for all our students with the combined efforts of students, staff, parents and community members.
