THIRTEENTH ANNUAL PARENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

ABC Unified School District Holds 13th Annual Parent Leadership Conference at Cerritos Sheraton
 
The ABC Unified School District and the ABC Adult School in collaboration with the ABC PTA Council hosts the 13th Annual Parent Leadership Conference on March 7, 2009 at the Sheraton Hotel in Cerritos. Every year, more than 300 parent participants from Cerritos, Artesia, Hawaiian Gardens and Lakewood attend this Award-winning Conference.
 
This years Conference Theme is Mind and Body Connection. Keynote Speakers 58th District California Assemblymember -Tony Mendoza and Founder and CEO of California Educational Centers and Blind Start of America - Brian Tom will talk about issues affecting todays parents. Special Guest Speakers, ABCUSD Superintendent Dr. Gary Smuts, ABCUSD Deputy Principal, Dr. Mary Sieu will open the Saturday morning Conference.
 
Participants will choose from ten workshops including:
Pursuing Victory with Honor how good sportsmanship is changing interscholastic sports for good. Beyond the Grades The Millionaire Student on how to help students get into college and jobs. Nutrition & Children introduces healthy foods children actually eat in an interactive workshop. The Cycle of Violence and Its Impact on Academic Achievements: What Can Be Done? PeaceBuilders presents information on how ABCUSD and other School Districts help students to be positive influences. Gain information on the Technical Graduation Requirement and California High School Exit Examination and how parents can help students succeed. One Person Can Make A Difference Go Green brings together representatives from each of the cities in the District to talk about plans in each city and how to participate. And fitness is fun with Line Dancing for Movement and Health.
 
Workshops are presented in English with Chinese, Korean and Spanish Translations.
 
Local Community Services present information in the Exhibition area on available fun activities within the Community. As always, this year, several local businesses and individuals provide assistance, products and services to help this event enrich the lives of our participants and their families.
